Heat shrink tubing (or commonly referred to as heat shrink or heat shrink) is a shrinkable plastic tube used for insulating wires, providing wear resistance and environmental protection for junctions and solid wires, connections, joints, and terminals in electrical engineering. It can also be used to repair the insulation layer of wires, protect wires or small components from slight wear, and make cable entry seals to provide environmental sealing protection.

There are many types and chemical compositions of heat shrink tubing, and the composition of each type depends on the expected application. From microscopic thin-walled pipes to rigid thick walled pipes, each type has precise designs and chemical additives that make it suitable for meeting various environmental needs. Heat shrink tubing is evaluated based on its expansion rate, which is a comparison of the difference between expansion rate and recovery rate. Then, by heating in the oven or using a hot air gun or other hot air source, tightly wrap the pipe around the joint.

There are many ways to shrink heat shrink tubing, including using an electric soldering iron to approach but not touch the tubing, or using a lighter to heat it. Uncontrolled heating can lead to uneven shrinkage, physical damage, and insulation failure. Heat shrink tubing suppliers do not recommend these methods. If overheated, the heat shrink tubing will melt, burn, or catch fire like other plastics. Heating will cause the pipe to shrink to half or one-third of its original diameter, depending on the material used, providing a tight fit for irregularly shaped joints. Pipes also have longitudinal shrinkage, which is usually not necessary. The degree of shrinkage is smaller than the degree of shrinkage, usually around 5%.

Heat shrink tubing has good insulation to prevent dust, solvents, and other foreign objects, as well as mechanical stress relief, and is mechanically fixed through its tight fit (unless the size is incorrect or there is no appropriate shrinkage).
