Polyolefin
This is the most popular heat shrink tubing material. It is available in irradiated, flame retardant, and semi-rigid versions to meet the needs of different applications.
· Extremely flexible (semi-rigid tubing is less flexible but great for strain relief)
· Chemical and solvent resistance
· Low shrink temperature
· Fast recovery time
2.Elastic polyolefin
Heat shrink tubing made from polyolefin elastomers is designed to provide excellent physical properties to optimize processing and end-user outcomes.
· Rugged and mechanically strong
· Withstands heat, fluids, and physical abuse over time
· Low temperature flexibility
3.Adhesive polyolefin
This special polyolefin tubing is designed with a layer of adhesive that melts and flows when the heat shrink tubing is heated, creating a tight seal around the component.
· Excellent resistance to corrosion, abrasion, heat, and chemicals
· Very flexible
· Tight seal with excellent moisture resistance
· Great for pressure relief
4.Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
PTFE is a good choice for heat shrink tubing applications that require extreme chemical resistance and a wide temperature range.
· Wide temperature range (-270ºC to 260ºC; -454ºC to 500ºC)
· Unmatched chemical resistance
· Excellent dielectric properties
· Superior lubricity (PTFE tubing creates very little friction in its applications)
· Chemically inert
5.Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP)
This material has similar properties to PTFE, but with its own advantages and disadvantages. It offers clarity and the thinnest wall thickness.
· UV and chemical resistant
· Low gas and vapor permeability and solvent absorption
· Chemically inert
· Excellent dielectric properties
· Low coefficient of friction
6.Fluororubber
This rubber material offers great flexibility over a wide temperature range. It is also ideal for heat shrink tubing in aerospace and industrial applications because it is resistant to acids, solvents, and fuels.
· Thermally stable
· Flexible at low and high temperatures
· Abrasion and cut resistant
· Resistant to fuels, acids, solvents, lubricants, and hydraulic fluids
· Weather resistant
7.Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
This heat shrink tubing material, sometimes listed as Kynar, is a common choice for automotive applications.
· Maintains excellent mechanical properties over a wide temperature range
· Excellent tensile strength and impact resistance
· Radiation resistant
· Resists creep and fatigue
8.Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
PVC is another popular material choice. Available in both standard and flat heat shrink tubing configurations, it can be used in a wide range of industries and applications.
· Excellent mechanical strength (30% stronger than polyolefins)
· Low shrinkage temperature
